Abstract
A method is provided for use in reducing a size of halo effect in an ophthalmic lens. The method comprises: providing data indicative of a given ophthalmic lens with a first pattern providing prescribed vision improvement, processing said data indicative of the features of the first pattern and generating data indicative of a variation of at least one feature of the first pattern resulting in a second pattern which maintains said prescribed vision improvement and reduces a size of halo effect as compared to that of the lens with the first pattern.
Claims20
An optical lens comprising:
- a first lens surface;
- a second lens surface spaced apart from the first lens surface;
- and
- a pattern of spaced apart protrusions or pits, the pattern affecting a focus of the optical lens;
- wherein:
- the pattern is across the first lens surface or is across the second lens surface;
- the pattern comprises, in at least a radial direction, an altered periodic pattern, the altered periodic pattern comprising variations of relative locations of adjacent spaced apart protrusions or pits from a periodic pattern;
- the pattern is a non-diffractive phase pattern;
- and
- the pattern has a variable period or pitch with radius that creates non-periodicity in the pattern.
An optical lens comprising:
- a first lens surface;
- a second lens surface spaced apart from the first lens surface;
- and
- a pattern of spaced apart protrusions or pits, the pattern affecting a focus of the optical lens;
- wherein:
- the pattern is across the first lens surface or is across the second lens surface;
- the pattern comprises, in at least a radial direction, an altered periodic pattern, the altered periodic pattern comprising variations of relative locations of adjacent spaced apart protrusions or pits from a periodic pattern;
- the pattern has a variable period or pitch with radius that creates non-periodicity in the pattern;
- the focus of the optical lens is a first focus provided by the first lens surface and the second lens surface;
- and
- the first focus provides a vision improvement for distance vision of a recipient of the optical lens and wherein the pattern of spaced apart protrusions or pits substantially maintains a modulation transfer function at a focal plane corresponding to the first focus.
An optical lens comprising:
- a first lens surface;
- a second lens surface spaced apart from the first lens surface;
- and
- a non-diffractive phase pattern of varying refractive index materials across the lens, the varying refractive index materials comprising material embedded into the optical lens between the first lens surface and the second lens surface, the pattern affecting a focus of the optical lens;
- wherein the pattern of varying refractive index materials comprises, in at least a radial direction, an altered periodic pattern, the altered periodic pattern comprising a variable period or pitch with radius that creates non-periodicity in the pattern.
