Power control device

A method for managing the operation of an AC power grid to which connect a plurality of electrical storage devices, the AC power grid being characterized by a dynamic state of balance between power generation and load, the method comprising:

• a. sensing a characteristic of an electrical energy supplied by the AC power grid to the plurality of electrical storage devices;
• b. detecting an occurrence of a power generation deficit in the AC power grid on the basis of the characteristic;
• c. in response to detection of the power generation deficit within the AC power grid, controlling with a power control device an injection of electrical energy by a relevant one of the plurality of electrical storage devices to lessen the power generation deficit within the AC power grid;
• and
• d. post injection of the electrical energy and in the absence of a power generation deficit in the AC power grid, measuring a remaining capacity of the relevant one of the energy storage devices;
• e. determining on the basis of the remaining capacity if the relevant one of the electrical storage devices is capable to deliver an ancillary service to the AC power grid, which includes injection of additional electrical energy into the AC power grid from the relevant one of the electrical storage devices according to predetermined parameters;
• f. when the remaining capacity indicates that the relevant one of the energy storage devices is capable to deliver the ancillary service, controlling the power control device to deliver the ancillary service;
• g. when the remaining capacity indicates that the relevant one of the energy storage devices does not
• have enough capacity to deliver the ancillary service, communicating via the central office with another one of the plurality of electrical storage devices to deliver the ancillary service.
