Abstract
The present disclosure provides medical devices having MRI-compatible circuitry. Preferably, the devices do not project an enlarged profile, yet their position can be determined during an iMRI procedure. Illustrative embodiments of such a device can include a base surface, a first conducting layer disposed on the base surface, a first insulating layer disposed over at least a portion of the first conducting layer, and a second conducting layer disposed over at least a portion of the first insulating layer.
Claims20
A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) medical device configured and adapted for use within a bore of a MRI scanner, the MRI medical device having a resonant frequency that is adapted and configured to match the resonant frequency of the MRI scanner, the MRI medical device defining a first length of transmission line along a length of the MRI medical device, said first length of said transmission line being formed from at least:
- a first printed circuit segment formed from a first conductive ink printed onto the MRI medical device, the first conductive ink being formed from a first material composition that, when printed, causes the first printed circuit segment to have a first electrical impedance that matches an electrical impedance of a first tissue type to reduce electrical current flow from the first circuit segment into the first tissue type during an MRI imaging procedure;
- and
- a second printed circuit segment formed from a second conductive ink printed onto the MRI medical device, the second printed circuit segment being printed so as to be operably coupled to the first printed circuit segment, the second conductive ink being formed from a second material composition that is different from the first material composition that, when printed, causes the second printed circuit segment to have a second electrical impedance different from the first electrical impedance, the second electrical impedance matching an electrical impedance of a second tissue type different from the first tissue type to help reduce electrical current flow from the second circuit segment into the second tissue type during the MRI imaging procedure.
