Kit for use with a selectively configurable wound dressing

A packaged kit of parts for use with a selectively configurable one-piece wound dressing, the one-piece wound dressing being configurable for use in a pressure gradient wound therapy system and without the pressure gradient wound therapy system;

• the kit comprising:
• a piercing tool configured to pierce a covering layer of the one-piece wound dressing to produce an aperture therein and thereby configure the one-piece wound dressing for use in the pressure gradient wound therapy system;
• one or more of the one-piece wound dressing configurable for use in the pressure gradient wound therapy system and without the pressure gradient wound therapy system, the one-piece wound dressing comprising a wound dressing cavity integrated with a covering layer, the wound dressing cavity containing therein a pressure distribution layer, one or more absorbent layers, and a wound contact layer;
• instructions instructing a user as to how to use the piecing tool to configure the one-piece wound dressing for use in the pressure gradient wound therapy system;
• and
• a sealed package comprising therein the one or more of the one-piece wound dressing, the piercing tool, the instructions and at least one of:
• a) packaging indicating that the piercing tool is configured to pierce a covering layer of the one-piece wound dressing to produce an aperture therein and thereby configure the one-piece wound dressing for use in the pressure gradient wound therapy system;
• (b) a source of non-atmospheric pressure;
• (c) a port for connection to the aperture in the covering layer to connect the one-piece wound dressing to the source of non-atmospheric pressure;
• or
• (d) tubing for connection between the one-piece wound dressing and the source of non-atmospheric pressure,
• wherein the piercing tool comprises a cutting edge and a housing, the cutting edge being retractable into the housing, and
• wherein the instructions instructing a user as to how to use the piercing tool to configure the one-piece wound dressing for use in the pressure gradient wound therapy system comprise instructions regarding cutting through the covering layer but not through the cavity to create the aperture to provide fluid communication between the wound dressing cavity and a source of non-atmospheric pressure.
