Measurement design for next radio (NR) and long term evolution (LTE)

An apparatus comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• memory storing instructions that, when executed, are configured to cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
• receiving, from a base station in a wireless network, measurement gap assistance information for a first frequency range and a second frequency range operational in the wireless network, the measurement gap assistance information comprising, for each of the first and second frequency ranges, a gap repetition period, a gap offset, and a gap length, wherein the gap length comprises one of 3 ms, 4 ms or 5.5 ms;
• determining a measurement gap configuration for the first frequency range based at least on the gap offset, the gap repetition period and the gap length for the first frequency range;
• and
• determining a measurement gap configuration for the second frequency range based at least on the gap offset, the gap repetition period and the gap length for the second frequency range.

One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed, are configured to cause one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

• receiving, from a base station in a wireless network, measurement gap assistance information for a first frequency range and a second frequency range operational in the wireless network, the measurement gap assistance information comprising, for each of the first and second frequency ranges, a gap repetition period, a gap offset, and a gap length, wherein the gap length comprises one of 3 ms, 4 ms or 5.5 ms;
• determining a measurement gap configuration for the first frequency range based at least on the gap offset, the gap repetition period and the gap length for the first frequency range;
• and
• determining a measurement gap configuration for the second frequency range based at least on the gap offset, the gap repetition period and the gap length for the second frequency range.
