Abstract
A vacuum insulating panel includes first and second substrates (e.g., glass substrates), a hermetic edge seal, a pump-out port, and spacers sandwiched between at least the two substrates. The gap between the substrates may be at a pressure less than atmospheric pressure to provide insulating properties. The panel may include a getter. The getter may be a thin film getter and/or may be elongated in shape.
Claims18
A vacuum insulating panel comprising:
- a first substrate;
- a second substrate;
- a plurality of spacers provided in a gap between at least the first and second substrates, wherein the gap is at pressure less than atmospheric pressure;
- a seal at least partially located between at least the first and second substrates;
- an elongated getter, wherein the getter as viewed from above is elongated in shape and has a ratio L/W of at least 2:1, where L represents a length of the getter, and W represents a width of the getter as viewed from above;
- and
- wherein the getter comprises first, second, and third layers, the second layer being located between at least the first and third layers, and wherein the first and third layers comprise getter material comprising from about 30-85 wt. % Ti and from about 1-25 wt. % V, wherein the second layer is a magnetic core layer comprising at least about 50 wt. % iron, and wherein the getter has a root mean square (RMS) surface roughness of at least about 400 nm.
