Abstract
Cucumber plants (Cucumis sativus) exhibiting increased resistance to Cumber Green Mottle Mosaic Virus (CGMMV) are provided, together with methods of producing, identifying, or selecting plants or germplasm with a CGMMV resistance phenotype. Such plants include cucumber plants comprising recombinant chromosomal segments conferring CGMMV resistance. Compositions, including novel polymorphic markers for detecting plants comprising introgressed virus resistance alleles, are further provided.
Claims7
A method for producing an elite Cucumis sativus plant with improved Cucumber Green Mottle Mosaic Virus (CGMMV) resistance comprising introgressing into an elite Cucumis sativus plant:
- (a) at least one CGMMV resistance allele within a chromosomal segment flanked in the genome of said plant by marker locus CGMMV_M1 (SEQ ID NO:
- 1) and marker locus CGMMV_M2 (SEQ ID NO:
- 6) on chromosome 5;
- and
- (b) at least one CGMMV resistance allele within a chromosomal segment flanked in the genome of said plant by marker locus CGMMVM4 (SEQ ID NO:
- 16) and marker locus CGMMV_M5 (SEQ ID NO:
- 21) on chromosome 1,
- wherein said introgressing comprises marker-assisted selection and confers to said plant improved CGMMV resistance compared to a Cucumis sativus plant lacking said at least one allele of (a).
