Abstract
A hydrocarbon feed stream, particularly one comprising heavier hydrocarbons, may be converted to valuable products such as motor gasoline and/or lubricating oil by employing one or more large pore zeolitic catalysts, which may be prepared from a precursor zeolite. In some examples, a large pore zeolitic catalyst may be utilized to selectively reduce the endpoint of a hydrocarbon composition.
Claims25
A method for converting hydrocarbons comprising:
- contacting a hydrocarbon feed stream having a sulfur content of less than about 50 wppm with a first hydrocracking catalyst comprising USY zeolite, Pt on Si/Al, or combinations thereof at conditions effective to convert the hydrocarbon feed stream to an intermediate feed stream comprising a residual fraction which boils above 650° F. (343° C.) and a C4-fraction, wherein the hydrocarbon feed stream comprises hydrocarbons having a T5 value of at least about 392° F. (200° C.);
- separating the C4-fraction from the intermediate feed;
- providing a large pore zeolitic catalyst comprising a large pore zeolite, wherein the large pore zeolite comprises PT/Si-EMM-23;
- and
- contacting the intermediate feed after separating the C4-fraction with the large pore zeolitic catalyst under conditions effective to convert the residual fraction to a hydrocarbon product stream that is characterized by a T95 distillation temperature that is lower than the T95 distillation temperature of the residual fraction, wherein the ratio of the percent conversion of the fraction of the hydrocarbon feed stream that boils at 343° C. to the percent conversion of the fraction of the hydrocarbon feed stream that boils at 177° C. is greater than +3.5.
A system for converting hydrocarbons comprising at least one reactor, the reactor comprising:
- a hydrocarbon feed stream inlet arranged and configured to convey a hydrocarbon feed stream into the reactor, wherein the hydrocarbon feed stream has a sulfur content of less than about 50 wppm;
- a hydrocarbon product stream outlet arranged and configured to convey a hydrocarbon product stream out of the reactor;
- a first catalyst bed comprising a first hydrocracking catalyst comprising USY zeolite, Pt on Si/Al, or combinations and a second catalyst bed comprising at least one large pore zeolitic catalyst comprising Pt/Si-EMM-23;
- and
- a separation stage between the first catalyst bed and second catalyst bed configured to separate a C4-fraction,
- wherein the second catalyst bed is configured to convert a residual fraction from the separation stage at conditions effective to produce the hydrocarbon product stream, wherein the hydrocarbon product stream is characterized by a T95 distillation temperature that is lower than the T95 distillation temperature of the residual fraction, and wherein the ratio of the percent conversion of the fraction of the hydrocarbon feed stream that boils at 343° C. to the percent conversion of the fraction of the hydrocarbon feed stream that boils at 177° C. is greater than 3.5.
