Abstract
A method of producing crystalline cellulose from a cellulosic material includes the step of reacting the cellulosic material in an aqueous slurry comprising a transition metal catalyst and a hypohalite solution.
Claims17
A method of producing crystalline cellulose from a cellulosic material, comprising the steps of:
- (a) reacting the cellulosic material in an aqueous slurry comprising a transition metal catalyst and a hypohalite solution having a concentration of 0.05M or greater, and an initial pH greater than 5.5 and a final pH less than 9.5, and
- (b) recovering a crystalline cellulose fraction.
