Abstract
A method for determining a characteristic of material at a target is provided. A target is illuminated with a pulsed light source. A fluorescence signal from the target when the pulsed light source is an “off” state is then sensed. Based on analysis of the fluorescence signal, a characteristic of material at the target is identified. A device can then be controlled based on the identified characteristic of the material at the target.
Claims13
A system comprising:
- a light source for delivering illumination to a target, the light source including a plurality of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), wherein individual light emitting diodes (LEDs) of the plurality of LEDs emits light at different wavelengths;
- a controller configured to:
- cause a first LED of the plurality of LEDs to be in an on state and emit a first illumination while a second LED of the plurality of LEDs is in an off state;
- cause the second LED to be in the on state and emit a second illumination while the first LED is in the off state;
- a detector configured to detect a first fluorescence signal from the target in response to the first illumination while the second LED is in the on state;
- the controller being further configured to:
- analyze the detected first fluorescence signal;
- and determine at least one characteristic of the target based at least in part on the analysis of the detected first fluorescence signal;
- and
- a treatment device, wherein the treatment device includes a laser system and the controller is further configured to operate the laser system by adjusting at least one parameter setting associated with the laser system based on the detected first fluorescence signal.
