Abstract
One or more boost pumps for a liquid hydrogen fuel system are disposed within the fuel tank and fully flooded. An electrical connector of each boost pump is sealed from the fuel tank and accessible from an exterior of the fuel tank while the boost pump is installed. Each boost pump can be independently replaced using a toolbox. Each boost pump is purged of fuel before being replaced by introducing a gas at a center region of the boost pump. The toolbox and new boost pump are purged prior to removal of the old boost pump. Each boost pump can be formed from modular components.
Claims9
A toolbox system for replacing a boost pump within a pump canister arrangement of an aircraft fuel system, the pump canister arrangement including a pump canister mounted to a pad bounding a fuel tank, the pad defining a cavity extending from the fuel tank to an exterior of the pad, the toolbox system comprising:
- a toolbox including:
- a toolbox body defining a main chamber having a port, the toolbox body being configured to sealingly mount to the pad so that the port aligns with the cavity, the main chamber being sized to hold a plurality of pumps, the toolbox body having a purge inlet valve, a purge outlet valve, and a suction valve;a carrier plate disposed within the main chamber of the toolbox body, the carrier plate being movable within the toolbox body to selectively align first and second sections of the carrier plate with the port of the toolbox body;
- anda rod extending along a length between opposite first and second ends, the first end of the rod being disposed within the main chamber, the second end being disposed outside of the toolbox body, the first end of the rod configured to engage a pump, the rod being movable within the main chamber relative to the carrier plate.
