Abstract
A motor leakage current detector and/or a heat compensating circuit, devices using same and related methods are disclosed herein. Included are a uniquely wired current transformer to allow for polarity agnostic leakage current detection, a leakage current detector using same and having a notifier to alert a user. In other forms, an accessory power cord and power strip are disclosed capable of detecting early motor failure conditions. In still other forms, other machinery failure early warning systems are disclosed as are numerous motor operated devices using same including without limitation pumps.
Claims21
A motor leakage current detector comprising:
- a power cord having at least two conductors to power a motor driven electronic device, the power cord having an electrical plug connectable to a power outlet;
- one or more sensors configured to detect a polarity of the at least two conductors and to detect leakage current of the motor driven electronic device through the power cord;
- communication circuitry configured to wirelessly communicate with a remote computing device to enable remote monitoring of the motor leakage current detector;
- a controller connected to the power cord, the controller in communication with the communication circuitry and the one or more sensors, the controller configured to:
- detect the polarity of the at least two conductors to determine if the polarity of the power outlet is proper;
- detect leakage current of the motor driven electronic device using the one or more sensors;
- cause, via wireless communication of the communication circuitry with the remote computing device, a first alert message to be presented to a user in a software application of a user device associated with the remote computing device when the polarity of the power outlet is determined to be improper;
- and
- cause, via wireless communication of the communication circuitry with the remote computing device, a second alert message to be presented to the user in the software application of the user device when the detected leakage current exceeds a predetermined motor leakage current value.
A motor leakage current detector comprising:
- a power cord having at least two conductors to power a motor driven electronic device, the power cord having an electrical plug connectable to a power outlet;
- one or more sensors configured to detect a polarity of the at least two conductors and to detect leakage current of the motor driven electronic device through the power cord;
- communication circuitry configured to wirelessly communicate with a remote computing device to enable remote monitoring of the motor leakage current detector;
- a controller connected to the power cord, the controller in communication with the communication circuitry and the one or more sensors, the controller configured to:
- detect the polarity of the at least two conductors to determine whether the polarity of the power outlet is proper;
- and
- detect leakage current of the motor driven electronic device using the one or more sensors.
