Abstract
An infant calming/sleep-aid/SIDS detection device is provided that includes a main moving platform that moves in a variable manner with accompanying variable sound generation, the sound and motion adapted to calm a fussy baby, induce sleep, and maintain sleep under normal conditions. The device may also have a sensor for detection of pauses in breathing and/or detection of resultant biological changes related to breathing pauses and respond with appropriate stimuli to arouse the baby and allow breathing to recommence.
Claims11
An infant calming/sleep system, the system comprising:
- a base;
- a platform positioned above the base, the platform comprising a surface and configured to support a full length of an infant therealong;
- a rotation bearing or linkage coupled between the base and the platform;
- and
- an actuation assembly comprising a motor mounted to the base, at least first and second actuator assembly members arranged to receive output of the motor and couple the output to the platform to drive a back-and-forth rotational motion of the platform in sequential clockwise and counterclockwise directions within a horizontal plane about a fixed axis of rotation on the rotation bearing or linkage,
- wherein the first and second actuator assembly members are pivotably coupled and the second actuator assembly member is directly or indirectly coupled to the platform,
- wherein, in operation, the output of the motor moves the first actuator assembly member and the movement of the first actuator assembly member moves the second actuator assembly member, and
- wherein the back-and-forth rotational motion of the platform driven by the actuation assembly is configured to calm the infant when supported on the surface of the platform.
