Methods and systems for evaluating audio quality metrics using voice activity

A system comprising:

• a processor,
• a network interface, and
• a memory storing instructions executed by the processor to perform actions including:
• determining that a voice call from a first user equipment to a second user equipment is established in a wireless communication network;
• obtaining an audio stream associated with the voice call;
• determining a first quality metric of the audio stream;
• determining a feature of the audio stream, the feature including a voice activity level determined based at least in part on expected data packets in the audio stream;
• and
• determining that a user perception of the voice call is impacted based at least in part on the first quality metric and the feature of the audio stream.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing computer-readable instructions, that when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform actions comprising:

• determining that a voice call from a first user equipment to a second user equipment is established in a wireless communication network;
• obtaining an audio stream associated with the voice call;
• determining a first quality metric of the audio stream;
• determining a feature of the audio stream, the feature including a voice activity level determined based at least in part on expected data packets in the audio stream;
• and
• determining that a user perception of the voice call is impacted based at least in part on the first quality metric and the feature of the audio stream.
