Abstract
An endoscopic imaging system for use in a light deficient environment includes an imaging device having a tube, one or more image sensors, and a lens assembly including at least one optical elements that corresponds to the one or more image sensors. The endoscopic system includes a display for a user to visualize a scene and an image signal processing controller. The endoscopic system includes a light engine having an illumination source generating one or more pulses of electromagnetic radiation and a lumen transmitting one or more pulses of electromagnetic radiation to a distal tip of an endoscope.
Claims18
A system for endoscopic visualization of a light-deficient environment, the system comprising:
- an endoscopic camera comprising a first image sensor and a second image sensor;
- a light engine that emits pulses of electromagnetic radiation, wherein the light engine comprises a plurality of illumination sources, and wherein the plurality of illumination sources comprises:
- a white light source;
- and
- a narrowband source that emits electromagnetic radiation only within a waveband that is 100 nm wide or less;
- a waveguide that transmits the pulses of electromagnetic radiation from the light engine to a distal end of an endoscope tube such that the pulses of electromagnetic radiation are emitted onto a surface of a body tissue;
- and
- a controller in electronic communication with the endoscopic camera, wherein the controller is configured to synchronize operation of the endoscopic camera and the light engine;
- wherein the first image sensor and the second image sensor receive reflected electromagnetic radiation in response to the light engine emitting pulses of electromagnetic radiation to generate image data;
- wherein the image data comprises a first plurality of exposure frames output by the first image sensor and a second plurality of exposure frames output by the second image sensor;
- wherein the first image sensor outputs a first frame of the first plurality of exposure frames, and the second image sensor outputs a second frame of the second plurality of exposure frames at approximately the same time;
- and
- wherein the controller processes at least the first frame of the first plurality of exposure frames and at least the second frame of the plurality of exposure frames to calculate three-dimensional visualization data to map the surface of the body tissue.
A system for endoscopic visualization of a light-deficient environment, the system comprising:
- an endoscopic camera comprising a first image sensor and a second image sensor;
- a light engine that emits pulses of electromagnetic radiation, wherein the light engine comprises a plurality of illumination sources, and wherein the plurality of illumination sources comprises:
- a white light source;
- and
- a plurality of narrowband sources;
- a waveguide that transmits the pulses of electromagnetic radiation from the light engine to a distal end of an endoscope tube such that the pulses of electromagnetic radiation are emitted onto a surface of a body tissue;
- and
- a controller in electronic communication with the endoscopic camera;
- wherein each of the plurality of narrowband sources is independently actuatable;
- wherein two or more of the plurality of narrowband sources emit electromagnetic radiation within different wavebands that are each 100 nm wide or less;
- wherein the first image sensor and the second image sensor receive reflected electromagnetic radiation in response to the light engine emitting pulses of electromagnetic radiation to generate image data;
- and
- wherein the controller processes the image data output by the first image sensor and the second image sensor to calculate three-dimensional visualization data to map the surface of the body tissue.
A system for endoscopic visualization of a light-deficient environment, the system comprising:

- a white light source;
- and
- a narrowband source that emits electromagnetic radiation only within a waveband that is 100 nm wide or less;
- a waveguide that transmits the pulses of electromagnetic radiation from the light engine to a distal end of an endoscope tube such that the pulses of electromagnetic radiation are emitted onto a surface of a body tissue;
- and
- a controller in electronic communication with the endoscopic camera;
- wherein the first image sensor and the second image sensor receive reflected electromagnetic radiation in response to the light engine emitting pulses of electromagnetic radiation to generate image data;
