Method and apparatus for determining shelf-life of issue detected using digitized intellectual capital

A computer-implemented method comprising:

• performing one or more data collections that include data relating to one or more of a configuration of a computing system or an operation of the computing system;
• detecting an issue in the computing system based on the data, wherein the issue relates to an anomaly in one or more of the configuration of the computing system or the operation of the computing system;
• determining a shelf-life for the issue, wherein the shelf-life indicates an estimated duration of the issue existing in the computing system before the issue is remedied or is no longer present in the computing system and wherein determining the shelf-life for the issue includes determining a decay rate for the issue based on one or more of:
• a rate of change of the data, a sampling rate for the data, a first probability of a likelihood that the issue is detectable based on the data indicating a set of symptoms in the computing system, a second probability of a likelihood that the issue is a self-remediating issue in the computing system, a third probability of whether the issue can occur in the computing system, or a time duration since a last data collection of the one or more data collections, wherein the decay rate indicating a probability of a change in whether the issue is present in the computing system with respect to time since the issue is detected;
• and
• adjusting a next data collection of the one or more data collections based on the shelf-life of the issue,
• wherein the decay rate is determined at least based on the first probability, the second probability, and the third probability and determining the shelf-life for the issue includes:
• determining an average of the first probability, the second probability, and the third probability.

An apparatus comprising:

• a memory;
• a network interface configured to enable network communications;
• and
• a processor, wherein the processor is configured to perform a method comprising:
• performing one or more data collections that include data relating to one or more of a configuration of a computing system or an operation of the computing system;
• detecting an issue in the computing system based on the data, wherein the issue relates to an anomaly in one or more of the configuration of the computing system or the operation of the computing system;
• determining a shelf-life for the issue based at least on a self-remediation factor indicative of a probability whether the issue is a self-remediating issue, wherein the shelf-life indicates an estimated duration of the issue existing in the computing system before the issue is remedied or is no longer present in the computing system;
• and
• adjusting a next data collection of the one or more data collections based on the shelf-life of the issue.
