Abstract
Implantable physiological shunt systems and related fluid flow control devices and accessories for use therewith. Devices, systems and methods relating to implantable medical fluid flow control devices, rotors and magnets with increased resistance to inadvertent setting changes. Devices, systems and methods relating implantable medical fluid flow control devices, rotors and magnets which provide improved magnetic coupling to fluid flow control device accessories such as adjustment tools.
Claims10
A rotor assembly for an adjustable fluid flow control device, the rotor assembly comprising:
- a base comprising a central vertical axis and having a first inner protrusion extending from a lower surface of the base and a second outer protrusion extending from the lower surface of the base and radially outward from the first inner protrusion, the base including an outer ring which defines a lip around the circumference of the base, the outer ring including a lock-step tab;
- two magnets fixedly mounted in the base, each magnet comprising a planar surface;
- wherein each of the two magnets are embedded in the base such that the planar surface of each magnet lies in a plane perpendicular to the central vertical axis;
- wherein each magnet comprises an angle of polarization greater than 0° and less than 90° relative to the central vertical axis and the planar surface;
- wherein the first inner protrusion is configured to engage an inner stair-step array in a cartridge housing and the second outer protrusion is configured to engage an outer stair-step array in the cartridge housing;
- wherein the two magnets enable the base to be rotated relative to the inner and outer stair-step arrays;
- wherein each of the two magnet portions comprises magnetic material having a material grain;
- and
- wherein the material grain comprises an angle equal to the angle of polarization of the magnet;
- wherein the angle of the material grain is greater than 0° and less than 90° relative to the planar surface of the two magnets, whereby the material grain is angled relative to the planar surfaces;
- and
- wherein the lock-step tab is configured to function as a stop to limit rotation of the rotor assembly relative to at least one of the inner or outer stair-step arrays.
A rotor assembly for an adjustable fluid flow control device, the rotor assembly comprising:
- a base having a central vertical axis and having a first inner protrusion extending from a lower surface of the base and a second outer protrusion extending from the lower surface of the base and radially outward from the first inner protrusion, the base including an outer ring which defines a lip around the circumference of the base, the outer ring including a lock-step tab;
- a first magnet having first planar upper and lower surfaces;
- and
- a second magnet having second planar upper and lower surfaces;
- wherein the first and second magnets are fixedly mounted in the base with the first and second planar upper and lower surfaces perpendicular to the central vertical axis;
- wherein each of the first and second magnets has an opposite angle of polarization greater than 0° to about 20° relative to the first and second planar upper and lower surfaces, respectively;
- wherein the first and second magnets is are formed and machined of magnetic material having a material grain;
- wherein the material grain has an angle equal to the angle of polarization of the first and second magnets;
- wherein the angle of the material grain is greater than 0° to about 20° relative to the first and second planar upper and lower surfaces, respectively, whereby the material grain is angled relative to the first and second planar upper and lower surfaces;
- wherein the first inner protrusion is configured to engage an inner stair-step array in a cartridge housing and the second outer protrusion is configured to engage an outer stair-step array in the cartridge housing;
- wherein the first and second magnets enable the base to be rotated relative to the inner and outer stair-step arrays;
- and
- wherein the lock-step tab is configured to function as a stop to limit rotation of the rotor assembly relative to at least one of the inner or outer stair-step arrays.
