A method for treating autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) in a subject in need thereof, comprising administering at least one retinoic acid receptor (RAR) agonist selected from the group consisting of 4-[(E)-2-(5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-5,5,8,8-tetramethyl-2-naphthalenyl)-1-propenyl]benzoic acid (TTNPB) and tamibarotene (AM80), and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, and pharmaceutically acceptable hydrolyzable esters thereof.
