Abstract
In some examples, a catheter includes an elongated body including a proximal portion and a distal portion. The elongated body includes an inner liner, an outer jacket, a structural support member positioned between at least a portion of the inner liner and at least a portion of the outer jacket, and an expandable member coupled to the structural support member at the distal portion of the elongated body. The expandable member may be configured to expand radially outward, e.g., to engage a clot within vasculature of a patient.
Claims21
A catheter comprising:
- an elongated body including a proximal portion and a distal portion, the elongated body comprising:
- an inner liner;
- an outer jacket positioned radially outwards of the inner liner;
- a structural support member positioned between at least a portion of the inner liner and at least a portion of the outer jacket;
- and
- a distal member separate from and secured to the structural support member at the distal portion of the elongated body,
- wherein the distal member is secured to the structural support member by reflowed material of the outer jacket,
- wherein the distal member has a larger outer diameter than the proximal portion of the elongated body,
- wherein the distal member is configured to expand from a low profile configuration to an expanded configuration, wherein the distal member defines the larger outer diameter in the expanded configuration,
- wherein a section of the inner liner is at least partially coextensive with the distal member, and
- wherein the outer jacket extends over at least a part of the distal member having the larger outer diameter.

A catheter comprising:
- an elongated body including a proximal portion and a distal portion and defining an inner lumen, the elongated body comprising:
- an inner liner that defines the inner lumen;
- an outer jacket radially outwards of the inner liner;
- a structural support member positioned between at least a portion of the inner liner and at least a portion of the outer jacket;
- and
- a distal member separate from and secured to the structural support member at the distal portion of the elongated body,
- wherein the distal member defines an opening to the inner lumen of the elongated body, the opening defining a larger inner diameter than an inner diameter of the proximal portion of the elongated body,
- wherein the distal member is configured to expand from a low profile configuration to an expanded configuration, wherein the distal member defines a larger outer diameter in the expanded configuration,
- wherein the outer jacket extends at least to a distalmost end of the distal member when the distal member is in the expanded configuration,
- wherein a section of the inner liner is at least partially coextensive with the distal member, and
- wherein the inner liner terminates proximally of a distal end of the distal member.

A catheter comprising:
- an elongated body including a proximal portion and a distal portion, the elongated body comprising:
- an inner liner;
- an outer jacket positioned radially outwards of the inner liner;
- a structural support member positioned between at least a portion of the inner liner and at least a portion of the outer jacket;
- and
- an expandable member separate from and secured to the structural support member at the distal portion of the elongated body such that the expandable member extends distally of the structural support member,
- wherein the expandable member is secured to the structural support member by reflowed material of the outer jacket,
- wherein the expandable member has a larger outer diameter than the proximal portion of the elongated body,
- wherein the expandable member is configured to expand from a low profile configuration to an expanded configuration, wherein the expandable member defines the larger outer diameter in the expanded configuration,
- wherein the outer jacket extends over at least a portion of the expandable member having the larger outer diameter,
- wherein a section of the inner liner is at least partially coextensive with the expandable member, and
- wherein the inner liner terminates proximally of a distal end of the expandable member.
