Elastography device and method

An elastography device comprising:

• a probe comprising
• a protruding part to be applied against the body of a subject,
• a low frequency vibrator adapted to generate a low-frequency wave,
• an ultrasound emitter and an ultrasound receiver, and
• an electronic unit comprising electronic circuitry adapted to alternatively control the elastography device so that it operates (a) in a guidance mode to determine whether the probe is correctly positioned in front of a region of the body to be probed to carry out a measurement of a mechanical property of the probed region and (b) in a measurement mode to carry out said measurement,
• wherein, in the guidance mode, the electronic unit is configured to determine a propagation quality indicator representative of an aptitude of the probed region to transmit a transient, low frequency mechanical pulse,
• wherein, in the measurement mode, the electronic unit is configured to determine said mechanical property, said mechanical property being related to low frequency elastic wave propagation, and
• wherein, in each of said guidance mode and said measurement mode, the electronic unit is configured to control the low frequency vibrator to emit a plurality of transient, low frequency mechanical pulses (a) to determine the propagation quality indicator and (b) to carry out said measurement of the mechanical property.
