Abstract
Provided is a carbon quantum dot having a graphite core and a surface including components, such as compounds derived from formula (I) and halogens, and having a positive charge for antibacterial purposes. Also provided are methods for preparing a carbon quantum dot and a composition containing the same.
Claims16
A carbon quantum dot comprising a reaction product derived from a compound of formula (I) and a halide ion compound after a pyrolysis treatment:
- wherein the reaction product comprises a graphite core and a surface having a compound of formula (I) and a halogen, and the surface has a positive charge,
- wherein R1 in the compound of formula (I) is selected from the group consisting of C2-8 alkyl, [CH2]4—NH—[CH2]3, [CH2]3—NH—[CH2]4—NH—[CH2]3, [CH2]4—CH—COOH, CH2—CHOH—[CH2]2—CH—COOH, and [CH2]2—S—CH2—CH—COOH, and R2 is H;
- and
- wherein the halogen has a weight percentage of between 15% and 40% in the carbon quantum dot.
