Train simulator test set and method therefor

A train simulator test set configured simulate a train on a railroad track to test the functionality of crossing safety devices, comprising:

• a user interface configured to set or display one or more parameters of a simulated train;
• a plurality of cables configured to releasably couple to railroad track rails;
• a memory storing a plurality of train and railroad track characteristics;
• and
• a processor operably coupled to the memory and capable of executing machine-readable instructions to perform program steps, the program steps including:
• measuring a resting impedance of a section of railroad track;
• receiving an input track length;
• receiving a plurality of desired train simulation parameters;
• calculating, based on the received desired train simulation parameters, inductance values that that correspond to the inductance characteristics of a train having the desired train simulation parameters;
• generating the calculated inductance values and applying the inductance to the railroad tracks;
• and
• verifying, based on the application of the inductance to the railroad track, proper operation of the crossing safety devices.
