Image display apparatus and method for controlling the same

An image display apparatus comprising:

• a display;
• a network interface module configured to transceive data with a service apparatus;
• and
• a signal processing device configured to control the network interface module to receive information about a version of an application provided by the service apparatus,
• wherein the signal processing device is configured to:
• based on a request for executing an application, compares a version of the application installed on the image display apparatus to a version of the application installed on the service apparatus and determine whether the image display apparatus or the service apparatus has a higher version of the application installed thereon, and
• control the network interface module to selectively execute the application on an apparatus among the image display apparatus or the service apparatus having the higher version of the application installed thereon based on the determination of whether the image display apparatus or the service apparatus has the higher version of the application installed thereon.
