Abstract
An electronic parachute deployment system including an electronic actuator, a control module, a deployment actuator, and a release mechanism. A parachute is positioned on a payload device, such as a racecar, to slow or stop the payload upon receipt of an electronic deployment activation signal. The electronic deployment signal is verified, including determining proper voltage and source. The deployment system includes multiple redundancies including mechanical deployment redundancy, remote deployment redundancy, and power supply redundancy. The control module responsible for monitoring deployment includes indicators and sensors to indicate a status, operation, or mode relative to the operability of the payload device, relative to components of the release mechanism, and relative to the parachute deployment.
Claims19
An electronic parachute deployment system for a payload device, comprising:
- an electronic deployment actuator communicatively coupled to the payload device;
- a redundant deployment actuator coupled to the payload device, wherein the redundant deployment actuator comprises a mechanical lever actuator disposed on a dashboard of the payload device and above a gear shifter of the payload device;
- a parachute container for releasably containing a parachute, wherein the parachute container is disposed at a rear end of the payload device;
- a release mechanism coupled to the parachute container;
- a canister for holding an inert gas, the canister having a seal;
- a control module having a memory and a processor, wherein the control module is communicatively coupled to the electronic deployment actuator and the release mechanism;
- wherein the release mechanism comprises a biased puncture needle abutting the seal;
- and
- wherein the memory includes a set of executable instructions that when executed by the processor causes the control module to perform the following:
- receiving an activation signal;
- sending the activation signal to the release mechanism;
- activating the release mechanism using the activation signal;
- and
- deploying the parachute from the rear end of the payload device.
An electronic parachute deployment system for a race car, comprising:
- an electronic actuator coupled to the race car;
- a deployment actuator coupled to the race car, wherein the deployment actuator is comprised of a lever disposed on a dashboard of the race car and adjacent to a steering wheel of the race car;
- a release mechanism coupled to the race car;
- a control module having a memory and a processor, wherein the control module is in communication with the electronic actuator;
- and
- a canister for holding an inert gas, the canister having a seal;
- wherein the release mechanism comprises a biased puncture needle abutting the seal;
- and
- wherein the memory includes a set of executable instructions that when executed by the processor causes the control module to perform the following:
- providing an authentication key;
- sending an authorized activation signal to the race car;
- and
- deploying a parachute from the rear of the race car based on the authorized activation signal.
An electronic parachute deployment network system, comprising:
- a remote device communicatively coupled to a payload device comprised of a land vehicle;
- a deployment actuator coupled to the payload device;
- and
- a control module having a memory and a processor, wherein the control module is communicatively coupled to the remote device;
- a canister for holding an inert gas, the canister having a seal;
- and
- a release mechanism having a biased puncture needle abutting the seal;
- wherein the memory includes a set of executable instructions that when executed by the processor causes the control module to perform the following:
- providing an authentication key;
- decrypting a deployment activation signal;
- and
- sending the decrypted deployment activation signal to the deployment actuator to deploy a parachute from the payload device.
