Abstract
A composite yarn comprising a continuous multifilament core yarn incorporated in a matrix, is characterized in that the matrix comprises at least one polymer material and at least one reinforcing filler, the reinforcing filler being formed from functionalized particles, said particles having a median size (dv50) of less than 40 μm. A process for manufacturing such a composite yarn, comprises at least one step of depositing, by coating or extrusion, a matrix comprising a polymer and a reinforcing filler, onto a core yarn. A textile surface comprises at least one such composite yarn.
Claims20
A composite yarn, which comprises
- a core yarn comprising a plurality of filaments with interstices therebetween;
- a matrix comprising
- a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin, and
- at least one reinforcing filler being formed from functionalized particles having a median size (dv50) of less than 40 μm,
- wherein (a) the mass ratio of the at least one reinforcing filler to the PVC resin is 16-17.6:100, and/or (b) the amount of the at least one reinforcing filler is 8.7-9.8 wt % of the total weight of the matrix;
- and
- a flame-retardant coating which comprises a flame-retardant;
- wherein the core yarn is incorporated in the matrix whereby some of the reinforcing filler is present in the interstices and the matrix forms a coating on the core yarn upon which the flame-retardant coating is layered.
