Abstract
The invention relates to a non-heated humidification device comprising a wick; a chamber for holding water in contact with the wick; and a gas inlet to the chamber, wherein the chamber and wick are configured to humidify gas passing through or over the wick at ambient conditions. The device may be modular and attachable to a flow generator. The device may comprise dual gas circuits and a control system for controlling the gas flow through the gas circuits in order to control the humidity of the gas output.
Claims25
A humidification device for respiratory therapy, the humidification device comprising:
- a fluid chamber having a gas inlet and a gas outlet, the gas inlet being configured to receive a flow of breathing gas from a flow generator, wherein the flow of breathing gas flows through the fluid chamber from the gas inlet to the gas outlet;
- a wick supported within the fluid chamber, the wick comprising:
- a wick body;
- and
- a hollow region,
- wherein the hollow region of the wick is downstream of the gas inlet and the gas outlet is downstream of the hollow region of the wick relative to the flow of breathing gas through the fluid chamber;
- wherein the flow of breathing gas introduced to the fluid chamber from the gas inlet primarily passes through the wick body before reaching the hollow region;
- the flow of breathing gas continually passing into the hollow region.
A humidification device for a respiratory pressure therapy, the humidification device comprising:
- a fluid chamber comprising a gas inlet and a gas outlet;
- and
- a wick supported within the fluid chamber, the wick comprising:
- a wick body comprising two spaced apart opposed portions with an empty space defined between the two spaced apart opposed portions, the wick being at least partially disposed within the fluid chamber to cause gas that enters the fluid chamber via the gas inlet to pass through a first of the two spaced apart opposed portions of the wick body, across a space between the two spaced apart opposed portions and then through a second of the two spaced apart opposed portions of the wick body before exiting the fluid chamber via the gas outlet such that the gas primarily flows through the wick body.
A humidification device for respiratory therapy, the humidification device comprising:
- a fluid chamber having a gas inlet and a gas outlet, the gas inlet being configured to receive a flow of breathing gas from a flow generator, wherein the flow of breathing gas flows through the fluid chamber from the gas inlet to the gas outlet;
- a wick chamber located within the fluid chamber, the wick chamber comprising a foraminous structure for supporting a wick within the fluid chamber, the wick comprising:
- a wick body;
- and
- a hollow region,
- wherein the hollow region of the wick is downstream of the gas inlet and the gas outlet is downstream of the hollow region of the wick relative to the flow of breathing gas through the fluid chamber;
- wherein the flow of breathing gas introduced to the fluid chamber from the gas inlet passes through the wick body before reaching the hollow region.
A humidification device for a respiratory pressure therapy, the humidification device comprising:
- a fluid chamber comprising a gas inlet and a gas outlet;
- and
- a wick supported within the fluid chamber, the wick comprising:
- a wick body comprising two spaced apart opposed portions, the wick comprising a hollow region that defines a space between the two spaced apart opposed portions, the wick body comprising a curved external surface and the hollow region of the wick being defined by a curved internal wall to form an annual wick, the wick being at least partially disposed within the fluid chamber to cause gas that enters the fluid chamber via the gas inlet to pass through a first of the two spaced apart opposed portions of the wick body, across a space between the two spaced apart opposed portions and then through a second of the two spaced apart opposed portions of the wick body before exiting the fluid chamber via the gas outlet.
