Compositions and methods for repairing cartilage defects

A method of treating a chondral and/or osteochondral defect in a human subject, the method comprising:

• implanting into the subject a composition comprising:
• cultured allogeneic cells comprising chondrocytes grown from a cryogenically frozen cell bank sample;
• and
• a resorbable collagen membrane,
• wherein the cells are seeded on the membrane at a density of at least 250,000 cells per cm2.
