Instrumented infant feeding bottle

A computer implemented method of monitoring and controlling passage of feeding substances from a hollow bottle chamber defined by a bottle enclosure, comprising:

• for respective sucking events leading to passage of feeding substances from the hollow bottle chamber over a period of time;
• measuring sucking pressures with a pressure sensor in fluid communication with the hollow bottle chamber;
• transmitting the sucking pressures from the pressure sensor to a computer;
• counting the total number of sucking events during the period of time by identifying changes in the pressure signal from signal minima to signal maxima;
• using computerized software to calculate feeding pattern data from respective sucking pressures over the period of time exhibiting a plurality of sucking events, wherein the software implements steps comprising:
• calculating a total volume of feeding substances consumed in the respective sucking events as ΔV=V/P0·ΔP wherein ΔV is volume of feeding substances for a respective sucking event, V is volume inside of the bottle chamber, P0 is atmospheric pressure, and ΔP is change of pressure inside of the bottle chamber;
• calculating a volumetric rate of consumption of feeding substances as a function of time from the respective total volumes for the respective sucking events and the total number of sucking events in the period of time;
• and
• storing the feeding pattern data in memory associated with the computer.
