Abstract
A vessel occluder used to occlude blood flow within the vasculature is described. The vessel occluder can include an expandable mesh portion having a flexible membrane that expands within a cavity of the expandable mesh portion. When expanded, the flexible membrane blocks blood passage through the mesh portion.
Claims20
A vascular plug, comprising:
- a mesh portion having a radially compressed configuration when constrained in a catheter and a radially expanded configuration when unconstrained;
- the mesh portion having a first end and a second end opposite the first end;
- and,
- a flexible membrane connected to and supported by a support frame located within a cavity of the mesh portion;
- wherein the support frame extends to one or more of the first end and the second end of the mesh portion;
- wherein, when the mesh portion is in the radially expanded configuration, the flexible membrane forms a planar area positioned at a non-perpendicular angle across the cavity relative to an axis of the vascular plug between the first end and the second end.

A vascular plug, comprising:
- a mesh portion having a radially compressed configuration when constrained and a radially expanded configuration when unconstrained;
- the mesh portion having a first end and a second end opposite the first end, and formed of braided wires;
- a support structure within a cavity of the mesh portion;
- and,
- a flexible membrane connected to the support structure;
- wherein the support structure is free of direct connection to the mesh portion between the first end and the second end;
- wherein when the mesh portion is in the radially expanded configuration, the flexible membrane forms a planar area positioned at a non-perpendicular angle across the cavity relative to an axis of the vascular plug between the first end and the second end.

A vascular plug, comprising:
- a mesh portion having a radially compressed configuration when constrained in a catheter and a radially expanded configuration when unconstrained;
- the mesh portion having a first end and a second end opposite the first end;
- and,
- a flexible membrane means for creating a planar barrier positioned across a cavity of the mesh portion and substantially blocking bodily fluids between the first end and the second end of the mesh portion when the mesh portion is in the radially expanded configuration, and
- a support structure means for supporting the planar barrier from one or more of the first end or the second end of the mesh portion;
- wherein the planar barrier is positioned at a non-perpendicular angle relative to an axis located between the first end and the second end of the mesh portion.
