Abstract
A method, implemented in an optical line system, includes monitoring traffic channels of a plurality of traffic channels; determining one or more traffic channels of the plurality of traffic channels are problematic with respect to other traffic channels of the plurality of traffic channels; and squelching the one or more traffic channels and replacing the squelched one or more traffic channels with channel holders. The method can further include continuing the monitoring of the squelched one or more traffic channels; determining the squelched one or more traffic channels are no longer problematic; and re-adding the squelched one or more traffic channels by replacing the channel holders therewith.
Claims20
A method, implemented in an optical line system, comprising steps of:
- monitoring traffic channels of a plurality of traffic channels;
- determining one or more traffic channels of the plurality of traffic channels are problematic with respect to other traffic channels of the plurality of traffic channels, wherein the plurality of traffic channels are problematic based on one or more characteristics continuously or repeatedly exceeding predetermined thresholds over a predetermined length of time indicative of a persistent or recurrent condition;
- and
- squelching the one or more traffic channels and replacing the squelched one or more traffic channels with channel holders.
A system comprising:
- a spectrum handling component;
- one or more Optical Performance Monitoring (OPM) devices connected to any of inputs or outputs of the spectrum handling component and configured to monitor traffic channels of a plurality of traffic channels which are being added to the spectrum handling component;
- and
- a control device comprising circuitry configured to
- determine one or more traffic channels of the plurality of traffic channels are problematic with respect to other traffic channels of the plurality of traffic channels, wherein the plurality of traffic channels are problematic based on one or more characteristics continuously or repeatedly exceeding predetermined thresholds over a predetermined length of time indicative of a persistent or recurrent condition, and
- cause squelching the one or more traffic channels and cause replacing the squelched one or more traffic channels with channel holders.
A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processors to implement steps of:
- responsive to monitoring traffic channels of a plurality of traffic channels in an optical line system, determining one or more traffic channels of the plurality of traffic channels are problematic with respect to other traffic channels of the plurality of traffic channels, wherein the plurality of traffic channels are problematic based on one or more characteristics continuously or repeatedly exceeding predetermined thresholds over a predetermined length of time indicative of a persistent or recurrent condition;
- and
- squelching the one or more traffic channels and replacing the squelched one or more traffic channels with channel holders.
