Abstract
A network of metal fibers includes a plurality of metal fibers fixed to one another; wherein at least some of the plurality of metal fibers have a length of 1.0 mm or more, a width of 100 μm or less and a thickness of 50 μm or less. A method includes producing a plurality of metal fibers by melt spinning; providing a loose network of metal fibers; and fixating the plurality of metal fibers to one another.
Claims12
A network of metal fibers, comprising:
- a plurality of entangled metal fibers being entangled with one another and in a metastable condition and not in thermodynamic equilibrium at ambient temperatures;
- wherein the plurality of entangled metal fibers are subjected to a temperature of between 10 to 95% of a melting point of a material of the plurality of entangled metal fibers to fix the plurality of entangled metal fibers to one another and establish a network of fixed metal fibers;
- wherein the fixed metal fibers in the network of fixed metal fibers have a length of 1.0 mm or more, a width of 100 μm or less and a thickness of 50 μm or less.
