Abstract
Therapeutic compositions, primarily for topical application, and methods of making and using the composition. Pharmaceutical compositions formulated for specific forms of administration are also provided.
Claims20
A method for treating a condition in a patient comprising administering or applying to the patient a composition comprising:
- a) a chloride salt at a concentration of at least 300 mM;
- b) a source of bicarbonate at a concentration of at least 500 mM;
- and
- c) an antimicrobial agent selected from the group consisting of biguanides, bisbiguanides, triguanides and analogs thereof,
- wherein the concentration of the antimicrobial agent is at least 0.1% (w/v);
- wherein the composition is alkaline;
- and
- wherein the condition is selected from the group consisting of a wound, a bacterial infection, a viral infection, a fungal infection, inflammation, angiogenesis, and pain.

A method of treating a condition comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a composition comprising:
- a) a chloride salt at a concentration of at least 300 mM;
- b) a source of bicarbonate at a concentration of at least 500 mM;
- c) an oxygen-producing compound;
- d) an antimicrobial agent;
- and, and
- e) a surfactant,
- wherein:
- the oxygen-producing compound is at a concentration in the range of from about 0.001% (v/v) to about 0.01%, (v/v);
- the antimicrobial agent is at a concentration of at least about 0.12% (w/v);
- the surfactant is at a concentration of at least 0.04% (w/v);
- and
- the composition is alkaline.
