Variable gain amplifier with subthreshold biasing

An electronic device comprising:

• one or more antennas, and
• a variable gain amplifier coupled to the one or more antennas having:
• a first amplifier having a first input configured to receive a bias voltage equal to or greater than a bias voltage threshold to provide an amplified signal with one or more distortion signals based on an input signal, and
• a second amplifier having a second input and a third input, the second input configured to receive the input signal while the third input is configured to receive a subthreshold nonzero bias voltage below the bias voltage threshold to provide a first distortion cancelling signal.

A method comprising:

• receiving, by a processor communicatively coupled to a variable gain amplifier circuit, an indication to amplify a signal with a gain,
• determining, by the processor, one or more amplifiers of the variable gain amplifier circuit to provide the signal with the gain,
• causing, by the processor, a biasing circuit to provide a bias voltage greater than or equal to a bias voltage threshold to the one or more amplifiers to amplify the signal with the gain,
• causing, by the processor, a subthreshold biasing circuit to provide a subthreshold nonzero bias voltage less than the bias voltage threshold to a supply voltage input of one or more remaining amplifiers of the variable gain amplifier circuit while a signal input of the one or more remaining amplifiers different from the supply voltage input receives the signal, the one or more remaining amplifiers configured to generate a distortion cancelling signal to cancel at least a portion of distortions in the signal as amplified based on the subthreshold nonzero bias voltage,
• causing, by the processor, the variable gain amplifier circuit to output a combination of the signal and the distortion cancelling signal.
