A computer program product comprising a non-transitory machine-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by at least one programmable processor, cause the at least one programmable processor to:
- transmit at least one optical signal using a transmission route in a plurality of transmission routes between a first enhanced branching unit (EBU) in a plurality of enhanced branching units to a second EBU in the plurality of EBUs, the transmission route including at least one trunk cable in one or more trunk cables, wherein each of the first EBU and the second EBU is communicatively coupled to at least one landing cable in a plurality of landing cables to a respective telemetry transceiver located at one or more terrestrial sites and a recovery cable in a plurality of recovery cables;
- detect a fault condition in at least one of:
- the at least one trunk cable, the at least one landing cable and the recovery cable;
- select, in response to controlling by the respective telemetry transceiver, at least one of:
- at least another trunk cable in the plurality of trunk cables, at least another landing cable in the plurality of landing cables, and at least another recovery cable in the plurality of recovery cables, and form, based on the selecting, another transmission route in the plurality of transmission routes;
- and
- provide power to the another transmission route, and re-direct transmission of the at least one optical signal using the powered another transmission route.
