Abstract
A cast part includes an outermost wall, at least one inner wall defining at least two internal passages and at least one cast cooling fin extending from an outer surface. The cast part including a cross-sectional circular area spanning at least a portion of each of four internal passages includes a ratio of interior empty space to inner wall space that improves heat transfer.
Claims11
A cast part comprising:
- an outermost wall;
- and
- a first inner wall, a second inner wall, and a third inner wall which define at least four internal passages, wherein any cross-sectional circular area spanning at least a portion of each of said four internal passages includes a ratio of interior empty space to inner wall space that is greater than zero and no greater than 3.6.
A heat exchanger comprising:
- an inlet manifold;
- an outlet manifold;
- and
- at least one plate portion disposed between the inlet manifold and the outlet manifold, the at least one plate portion having a top surface, a bottom surface and a plurality of cast cooling fins extending from both the top surface and the bottom surface, wherein the at least one plate portion includes an outermost wall, a first inner wall, a second inner wall, and a third inner wall which define at least four internal passages, wherein any cross-sectional circular area spanning a portion of all of said four internal passages includes a ratio of interior empty space to inner wall space that is greater than zero and no greater than 3.6 and wherein the at least one plate portion comprises a single unitary structure.
