Abstract
A percutaneous lead is provided which includes a generally tubular, multi-duct, flexible lead body. The lead body supports a distal set of electrodes and a proximal set of contacts which are connected by conductors in the ducts. The lead body further houses an optical fiber with a side firing section. The side firing section is held adjacent an optical transmission window, integrally formed with the flexible lead body. A cylindrical ferrule is provided to position the fiber in the header of an IPG.
Claims10
An implantable pulse generator charging and communications system comprising:
- a non-metallic case configured to be subcutaneously implanted;
- an internal processor, including a first memory, contained in the non-metallic case;
- a battery, a light emitting device, a light detecting device, and a first RF antenna, operatively connected to the internal processor, contained in the non-metallic case;
- a secondary charging coil, operatively connected to the internal processor, contained in the non-metallic case;
- an epicutaneous external processor, including a second memory;
- a primary charging coil, operatively connected to the epicutaneous external processor, adjacent the secondary charging coil;
- a charging signal, generated by the epicutaneous external processor and sent to the primary charging coil;
- wherein the charging signal is received by the secondary charging coil;
- wherein the internal processor adapts the charging signal to charge the battery;
- and
- the first memory incorporating a set of instructions that when executed cause the internal processor to:
- set a first emitter current of the light emitting device;
- read an initial detector voltage from the light detecting device, related to the first emitter current;
- read a steady state detector voltage of the light detecting device;
- compare the initial detector voltage to the steady state detector voltage;
- if the steady state detector voltage is less than the initial detector voltage, then increase the first emitter current to a second emitter current;
- compare the second emitter current to a maximum emitter current;
- and
- if the second emitter current is equal to or greater than the maximum emitter current, then send a data message to the epicutaneous external processor using the first RF antenna.
An implantable pulse generator radio communications system comprising:
- a non-metallic case, configured to be subcutaneously implanted;
- a first processor, in the non-metallic case;
- a first RF antenna, operatively connected to the first processor and contained in the non- metallic case;
- a light emitting device, contained in the non-metallic case, operatively connected to the first processor;
- a light detecting device, contained in the non-metallic case, configured to receive a light signal from the light emitting device;
- and
- a first set of instructions, contained in the first processor, that when executed cause the first processor to:
- set an output current of the light emitting device;
- compare the output current to a maximum output current;
- if the output current is equal to or greater than the maximum output current, then generate a data message;
- and
- transmit the data message on the first RF antenna.
