Abstract
Intraocular lenses for reducing negative dysphotpsia (ND) are described herein. An example ophthalmic lens can include an optic (200) with a central optical zone (225) disposed about the optical axis (OA) and an attenuation optical zone (220) disposed about the central optical zone (225), wherein the attenuation optical zone (220) is contiguous with the central optical zone (225), and wherein optical power of the ophthalmic lens is gradually reduced within the attenuation optical zone (220).
Claims6
A dysphotopsia-reducing intraocular lens (LOL), comprising:
- an optic including:
- an anterior surface defining an anterior side of the optic,
- a posterior surface defining a posterior side of the optic, wherein the posterior surface opposes the anterior surface;
- and
- an optical zone consisting of a central optical zone designed and configured for central vision and/or peripheral vision and an attenuation optical zone,
- wherein the central optical zone is disposed about an optical axis and extends radially outward from the optical axis, the central optical zone being defined by respective shapes of the anterior and posterior surfaces,
- wherein the attenuation optical zone is disposed about the central optical zone and extends radially outward from the central optical zone, wherein the attenuation optical zone is located at a periphery of the optic such that it does not impact central vision and/or peripheral vision below 40 degrees, the attenuation optical zone being defined by respective shapes of the anterior and posterior surfaces,
- wherein the attenuation optical zone is contiguous with the central optical zone and begins before an outermost edge of the optical zone,
- wherein a transition between the central optical zone and the attenuation optical zone is smooth and continuous,
- wherein the optical power of the intraocular lens is gradually reduced within the attenuation optical zone until it reaches zero at the outermost edge of the optical zone,
- wherein an angle between an edge of the attenuation optical zone and the posterior surface is from approximately 60 degrees to approximately 90 degrees,
- wherein the central and attenuation optical zones define a negative shape factor for the optic,
- wherein a vault height of the intraocular lens is from approximately 0.35 mm to approximately 1.5 mm, and
- wherein a diameter of the anterior surface of the optic is less than a diameter of the posterior surface of the optic.
