Abstract
Accelerated GRASE with controlled T2 blurring improves a point spread function (PSF) and temporal signal-to-noise ratio (tSNR) with many slices. The approach seeks to minimize a trade-off between SNR and blurring for functional sensitivity, and uses a new GRASE-optimized random encoding, which takes into accounts for the complex signal decays of T2 and T2* weightings, by achieving incoherent aliasing for constrained reconstruction. Numerical and experimental studies validate the effectiveness of the new method over regular and VFA GRASE (R- and V-GRASE).
Claims17
A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system comprising:
- a source of spatially slab-selective excitation and refocusing pulses applied along orthogonal directions to select a sub-volume of interest at their intersection in an object in a steady magnetic field;
- a source of refocusing radio frequency (RF) pulses successively applied to the object under a condition that includes 90-degree phase difference between the excitation and refocusing pulses, equidistant spacing between two consecutive refocusing pulses, and a constant spin defocusing in each echo spacing;
- a source of oscillating readout gradients with alternating polarities and phase encoding (PE) blips between the readout pulses, inserted between adjacent refocusing pulses and applied to the object to produce gradient echo (GE) and spin echo (SE) MRI signals;
- and
- an image processor configured to process the GE and SE MRI signals into images of the object in k-space, including by random encoding comprising randomly designated sampling selected to suppress inter-frame signal variations of the same MRI signals whole maintaining fixed contrast;
- wherein the random encoding comprises segmenting a selected k-space in at least one dimension as multiple sub-bands by dividing the selected k-space into several frequency bands according to a selected probability density function (PDF) where the partition encoding is generated by randomly choosing a sample k-space band sequentially according to a centric reordering.
