Abstract
A system for monitoring a patient includes an inflatable cuff configured to at least partially occlude an artery of the patient, and a sensor configured to determine a first parameter associated with the at least partially occluded artery and to generate an output signal indicative of the first parameter. The system also includes a processor configured to receive the output signal and information indicative of an occlusion efficiency of the cuff. The processor is configured to determine a hemodynamic parameter of the patient based on the output signal and the information.
Claims20
An apparatus, comprising:
- an inflatable cuff of a first type, the inflatable cuff being configured to receive fluid from an inflation device;
- and
- an information feature physically connected to the inflatable cuff, the information feature being configured such that the information feature indicates an occlusion efficiency particular to the inflatable cuff,
- wherein the occlusion efficiency indicated by the information feature quantifies an effectiveness, of the inflatable cuff relative to other inflatable cuffs of the first type, of occluding an artery during a determination of a hemodynamic parameter associated with a patient, and
- wherein configuring the information feature such that the information feature indicates the occlusion efficiency includes:
- inflating the inflatable cuff to a reference pressure, using an additional inflation device, and while the inflatable cuff is disposed around an object separate from the patient,
- determining a parameter associated with the inflatable cuff while the inflatable cuff is inflated to the reference pressure, and
- determining the occlusion efficiency based on the parameter.
An inflatable blood pressure cuff, comprising:
- an internal pocket;
- a port fluidly connected to the internal pocket, the port being configured to direct fluid to the internal pocket from an inflation device;
- and
- an information feature physically connected to the inflatable cuff, the information feature being configured such that the information feature indicates an occlusion efficiency particular to the inflatable cuff,
- wherein the occlusion efficiency indicated by the information feature quantifies an effectiveness, of the inflatable cuff relative to other inflatable cuffs of the first type, of occluding an artery during a determination of a hemodynamic parameter associated with a patient, and
- wherein configuring the information feature such that the information feature indicates the occlusion efficiency includes:
- inflating the inflatable cuff to a reference pressure by directing fluid to the internal pocket, using an additional inflation device fluidly connected to the port, and while the inflatable cuff is disposed around an object separate from the patient,
- determining a parameter associated with the inflatable cuff while the inflatable cuff is inflated to the reference pressure, and
- determining the occlusion efficiency based on the parameter.
A system, comprising:
- a processor;
- an inflatable cuff, the inflatable cuff being of a first type, and being configured to at least partially occlude an artery of the patient when the inflatable cuff is disposed around a limb of the patient and is inflated by an inflation device;
- and
- an information feature physically connected to the inflatable cuff, the information feature being configured such that the information feature indicates an occlusion efficiency particular to the inflatable cuff, wherein the occlusion efficiency indicated by the information feature:
- is determined independent of the inflation device, and
- quantifies an effectiveness, relative to other inflatable cuffs of the first type, with which air pressure within the respective cuff is transferred to force on the artery, and wherein the processor is programmed to:
- receive the occlusion efficiency indicated by the information feature, and
- use the received occlusion efficiency, as an input value, to determine a hemodynamic parameter of the patient.
