Abstract
The present disclosure provides an analyte sensor for use in detecting various analytes. In certain embodiments, an analyte-responsive active area of a presently disclosed analyte sensor includes two or more enzyme systems for detecting the analyte. The present disclosure further provides methods for detecting various analytes using the disclosed analyte sensors.
Claims11
An analyte monitoring device, comprising:
- a) a sensor configured to be inserted into a tissue comprising:
- (i) a first working electrode;
- (ii) an active area configured to detect an analyte comprising:
- (a) a first enzyme system comprising a glucose-responsive enzyme;
- and
- (b) a second enzyme system comprising a nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD)-dependent reductase specific for the analyte and an NAD-dependent glucose dehydrogenase;
- and
- (iii) a mass transport limiting membrane permeable to glucose and the analyte, wherein the mass transport limiting membrane overcoats at least the first active area, wherein the first enzyme system is configured to generate a signal proportional to a glucose concentration, and
- wherein the second enzyme system is configured to oxidize the glucose in the presence of the analyte thereby reducing the signal proportional to the glucose concentration, and
- b) sensor electronics configured to calculate a difference between the glucose concentration in the absence and presence of the analyte, wherein the difference is proportional to the analyte's concentration.
