Abstract
Methods and systems for wide-angle LiDAR are provided that utilize magnification optics that provide non-uniform resolution in different areas of a Field of View (FoV).
Claims20
A LIDAR system comprising:
- a transmitting path including:
- an emission unit configured for emitting an optical signal that illuminates at least part of a field of view (FoV);
- and
- magnification optics configured with an image point distribution function that is non-linear relative to a vertical field angle of object points in the FoV, wherein the magnification optics is configured to non-uniformly distribute the optical signal at non-uniformly spaced vertical angles in a vertical direction between horizon and ground, in accordance with the image point distribution function.

A LIDAR system comprising:
- a receiving path including:
- magnification optics configured with an image point distribution function that is non-linear relative to a vertical field angle of object points in a field of view (FoV), wherein the magnification optics is configured to receive an optical signal that is reflected from at least one object in the FoV and to non-uniformly distribute the optical signal at non-uniformly spaced vertical angles in a vertical direction between horizon and ground, in accordance with the image point distribution function;
- and
- a sensor unit configured to process the distributed optical signal and to output a depth map of the FoV.
