Abstract
A fuel booster system having a fuel inlet port, a fuel outlet port, and a fuel accumulator fluidically coupled to both ports. The fuel inlet port allows fuel to be delivered to the fuel accumulator and the fuel outlet port is in fluid communication with a combustion engine to deliver fuel from the fuel booster system to the combustion engine. A source of pressurized gas is also fluidically coupled to the fuel accumulator to deliver pressurized gas through a gas port in one end of the fuel accumulator. A piston is located within the fuel accumulator and the source of pressurized gas can be discharged into the fuel accumulator to force accumulated fuel from the fuel accumulator and to the engine when the fuel booster system determines that the engine needs more fuel.
Claims20
A fluid booster system for an engine, comprising:
- a fluid accumulator, the fluid accumulator having a hollow main body extending between a first end and a second end, a fluid port, and a gas port, wherein the fluid port is fluidically coupled to the engine to deliver accumulated fluid from the fluid booster system to the engine;
- a gas source, wherein the gas source is fluidically coupled to the fluid accumulator to deliver pressurized gas to the fluid accumulator through the gas port;
- a moveable sealing barrier residing within the hollow main body of the fluid accumulator, wherein the sealing barrier acts as a seal between accumulated fluid and gas within the fluid accumulator;
- a control system configured to control the flow of gas to the fluid accumulator;
- whereby the flow of gas into the fluid accumulator forces the sealing barrier to move within the fluid accumulator to discharge accumulated fluid through the fluid port and deliver accumulated fluid from the fluid booster system to the engine.
A fluid booster system for an engine, comprising:
- a fluid outlet port, the fluid outlet port in fluid communication with the engine to deliver fluid from the fluid booster system to the engine;
- a fluid accumulator, the fluid accumulator having a hollow main body extending between a first end and a second end, wherein the fluid accumulator is configured to receive a fluid;
- a source of pressurized gas fluidically coupled to the fluid accumulator to deliver pressurized gas to the fluid accumulator;
- a control system configured to control the flow of pressurized gas into the fluid accumulator when the control system determines that the amount of fluid or fluid pressure meets a predetermined threshold;
- whereby the pressurized gas entering the fluid accumulator forces fluid accumulated within the fluid accumulator through the fluid outlet port and to the engine.
A fluid booster system for an engine, comprising:
- a fluid inlet port, wherein fluid can pass through the fluid inlet port and into the fluid booster system;
- a fluid outlet port, wherein the fluid outlet port is in fluid communication with the engine to deliver fluid from the fluid booster system to the engine;
- a fluid accumulator, the fluid accumulator having a hollow main body extending between a first end and a second end;
- a sealing barrier residing within the hollow main body of the fluid accumulator, wherein the sealing barrier is configured to move within the fluid accumulator when subject to a force;
- a control system configured to control the force imposed on the sealing barrier;
- whereby the control system causes the sealing barrier to move within the fluid accumulator to discharge accumulated fluid out of the fluid accumulator and towards the engine when the control system determines that the amount of fluid or fluid pressure meets a predetermined threshold.
