Microsurgery system for displaying in real-time magnified digital image sequences of an operated area

A microsurgery system comprising:

• at least one camera, configured to acquire operated-area image sequences of an operated-area, said operated area including a tissue;
• an optical coherence tomography (OCT) device configured to produce an OCT image of said tissue;
• a beam splitter configured to split incoming light from said operated-area between said at least one camera, and said OCT device;
• a head mounted display (HMD), configured to display to a user at least a part of said operated-area image sequences, and said OCT image, said HMD and said at least one camera being mechanically and optically disconnected from each other;
• and
• a processor coupled with said HMD, said at least one camera, and said OCT device;
• wherein said OCT image is displayed via said HMD along with said at least part of said operated area image sequences;
• wherein said tissue is in said part of said operated area that is displayed by said HMD.

A microsurgery method comprising:

• splitting incoming light from an operated area into a first optical branch, and a second optical branch;
• acquiring operated-area image sequences of said operated area, associated with said first optical branch;
• producing optical coherence tomography (OCT) images of said operated-area, associated with said second optical branch;
• displaying to a user on a head mounted display (HMD), at least part of said operated-area image sequences and said OCT images,
• tracking movements of at least one of a head of said user, and said HMD, and producing outputs corresponding to said movements,
• receiving and processing said outputs from a tracker, and operating at least one function, according to said outputs,
• wherein operation of a first function of said at least one function manifests as changes in said OCT images displayed by said HMD.
