Abstract
The present disclosure provides methods and systems for performing non-classical computations. The methods and systems generally use a plurality of spatially distinct optical trapping sites to trap a plurality of atoms, one or more electromagnetic delivery units to apply electromagnetic energy to one or more atoms of the plurality to induce the atoms to adopt one or more superposition states of a first atomic state and a second atomic state, one or more entanglement units to quantum mechanically entangle at least a subset of the one or more atoms in the one or more superposition states with at least another atom of the plurality, and one or more readout optical units to perform measurements of the superposition states to obtain the non-classical computation.
Claims22
A method for performing a non-classical computation, comprising:
- (a) trapping a plurality of atoms at one or more trapping units, wherein said plurality of atoms is a plurality of qubits;
- (b) applying a first electromagnetic energy to one or more atoms of said plurality of atoms, at one or more first electromagnetic delivery units, thereby inducing said one or more atoms to adopt one or more superposition states of a first atomic state and at least a second atomic state that is different from said first atomic state;
- (c) quantum mechanically entangling, at one or more Rydberg units, at least a subset of said one or more atoms in said one or more superposition states with at least another atom of said plurality of atoms to form one or more multi-qubit units that comprise two or more qubits, wherein said quantum mechanical entangling in (c) comprises addressing, in parallel, each qubit of said two or more qubits with a second electromagnetic energy comprising one or more pulse sequences to said one or more multi-qubit units, thereby implementing one or more multi-qubit gate operations on said one or more multi-qubit units, wherein said one or more pulse sequences comprise one or more non-adiabatic pulses that maintain adiabatic dynamics;
- and
- (d) performing, at one or more readout units, one or more measurements of said one or more superposition states to obtain said non-classical computation.
A system for performing a non-classical computation, comprising:
- one or more controllers communicatively coupled to one or more trapping units, one or more first electromagnetic units, one or more Rydberg units, one or more second electromagnetic delivery units, and one or more readout units, wherein said one or more controllers are configured to:
- (i) direct said one or more trapping units to trap a plurality of atoms, which plurality of atoms is a plurality of qubits;
- (ii) direct said one or more first electromagnetic delivery units to apply a first electromagnetic energy to one or more atoms of said plurality of atoms, thereby inducing said one or more atoms to adopt one or more superposition states of a first atomic state and at least a second atomic state that is different from said first atomic state;
- (iii) direct said one or more Rydberg units to quantum mechanically entangle at least a subset of said one or more atoms in said one or more superposition states with at least another atom of said plurality of atoms to form one or more multi-qubit units that comprise two or more qubits, wherein said directing in (iii) comprises addressing, in parallel, each qubit of said two or more qubits with a second electromagnetic energy comprising one or more pulse sequences to said one or more multi-qubit units, thereby implementing one or more multi-qubit gate operations on said one or more multi-qubit units, wherein said one or more pulse sequences comprise one or more non-adiabatic pulses that maintain adiabatic dynamics;
- and
- (iv) direct said one or more readout units to perform one or more measurements of said one or more superposition states to obtain said non-classical computation.
