Abstract
A microwave or radio frequency (RF) device includes an insulating substrate having a first surface and a second surface opposing the first surface. The device also includes a crossover conductor disposed on the first surface extending between a first edge of the first surface and a second edge of the first surface. The device also includes a depression in the second surface defined at least in part by (i) a third surface recessed in relation to the second surface, and (ii) at least one sidewall that extends between the second surface and the third surface. The device further includes a conductive coating formed over at least a portion of the second surface, the third surface, and the at least one sidewall, where the conductive coating is insulated from the crossover conductor by the insulating substrate.

A radio frequency (RF) crossover device, comprising:
- an insulating substrate having a first surface and a second surface opposing the first surface;
- a recess in the second surface of the insulating substrate, the recess extending between opposite sides of the insulating substrate;
- a conductive material disposed on at least a portion of the second surface of the insulating substrate;
- a crossover conductor including a transmission line, a first impedance matching structure disposed on a first side of the first surface of the insulating substrate, and a second impedance matching structure disposed on a second side of the first surface of the insulating substrate, the transmission line continuously extending between the first impedance matching structure and the second impedance matching structure and suspended above the recess;
- a first transition conductor electrically connected to the crossover conductor on a first end of the insulating substrate and extending between the first and second surfaces of the insulating substrate;
- and
- a second transition conductor electrically connected to the crossover conductor on a second end, opposite the first end, of the insulating substrate and extending between the first and second surfaces of the insulating substrate.
A radio frequency (RF) crossover device comprising:
- an insulating substrate;
- a crossover conductor including a transmission line, a first impedance matching structure disposed on a first side of a first surface of the insulating substrate, and a second impedance matching structure disposed on a second side of the first surface of the insulating substrate, the transmission line continuously and extending between the first impedance matching structure and the second impedance matching structure and suspended above a recess;
- the recess formed in a mounting surface of the insulating substrate, the mounting surface opposite the first surface, the recess extending across the mounting surface in a direction non-parallel to a direction of the crossover conductor;
- and
- portions of the mounting surface and the recess are conductive and electrically isolated from the crossover conductor by the insulating substrate, wherein the recess does not contact a surface of a host device when the mounting surface of the RF crossover device is mounted on the host device.
A radio frequency (RF) crossover device, comprising:
- an insulating substrate having a first surface and a second surface opposing the first surface;
- a recess in the second surface of the insulating substrate, the recess extending between opposite sides of the insulating substrate;
- a conductive material disposed on at least a portion of the second surface of the insulating substrate;
- a crossover conductor including a transmission line, a first impedance matching structure disposed on a first side of the first surface of the insulating substrate, and a second impedance matching structure disposed on a second side of the first surface of the insulating substrate, the transmission line continuously extending between the first impedance matching structure and the second impedance matching structure and suspended above the recess;
- a first transition conductor electrically connected to the crossover conductor on a first side of the recess and extending between the first and second surfaces of the insulating substrate;
- and
- a second transition conductor electrically connected to the crossover conductor on a second side of the recess, opposite the first side of the recess, and extending between the first and second surfaces of the insulating substrate,
- wherein the first impedance matching structure and the second impedance matching structure improve a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of the RF crossover device.
