Network device with elevated temperature sensor

A network device comprising:

• a host board;
• a port on the host board;
• and
• a temperature sensor module configured to plug into the port, wherein the temperature sensor module comprises:
• a sensor board;
• a digital temperature sensor die disposed on a first surface of the sensor board, wherein the digital temperature sensor die is elevated from a surface of the host board by a distance greater than 3 millimeters;
• and
• an exposed conductive pad disposed on a second surface of the sensor board and coupled to the digital temperature sensor die through a conductive via in the sensor board.

An apparatus comprising:

• a printed circuit board;
• a port protruding from a surface of the printed circuit board and disposed at a first location on the printed circuit board;
• a temperature sensor module disposed at a second location on the printed circuit board, wherein the temperature sensor module comprises a sensor board, a temperature sensor component mounted on the sensor board, and contacts on the sensor board electrically coupled to the temperature sensor component;
• and
• a flexible cable having a first end connected to the port and having a second end connected to the temperature sensor module.
