Knitted component with a fused area

An article of footwear, comprising:

• an upper;
• a knitted component that forms at least a portion of the upper, wherein the knitted component comprises:
• a first knitted layer,
• a second knitted layer, and
• a first surface area and a second surface area, wherein the first surface area comprises a thermoplastic material that is thermoformed and provides the first surface area with a fused area, and a plurality of structures formed as solid protrusions extending outward from the knitted component,
• wherein the second surface area comprises a non-fused area;
• and
• a sole structure joined to the upper.

An article of footwear, comprising:

• an upper;
• a knitted component forming at least a portion of the upper, wherein the knitted component comprises a first yarn and a second yarn,
• wherein the first yarn comprises a thermoplastic material having a first melting temperature, and
• wherein the second yarn comprises a material with a higher melting temperature than the first melting temperature of the thermoplastic material;
• and
• a fused area that comprises a plurality of structures, wherein each structure of the plurality of structures protrudes outward from a layer of the knitted component.
