Abstract
A method for forming a composite tread, the method comprising the steps of forming a coextruded strip of a first compound and a second compound, wherein the first compound is a tread compound, and the second compound is formed from a high-wear compound, wherein the tread is formed from winding the coextruded strip onto the tire building drum while varying the ratio of the first compound to the second compound.
Claims13
A method for forming a composite tread, the method comprising the steps of:
- forming a coextruded strip of a first compound and a second compound, wherein the first compound is a tread compound, and the second compound is formed from a high-wear compound, wherein the tread is formed from winding the coextruded strip onto a tire building drum while varying a ratio of the first compound to the second compound, wherein the tread comprises a radially inner base layer and one or more tread blocks, wherein the tread blocks each comprise an outer layer and inclined walls that encapsulate an inner portion, wherein the outer layer is formed from the coextruded strip having a volume ratio of 0-10% of the first compound, and 90-100% of the second compound.

- forming a coextruded strip of a first compound and a second compound, wherein the first compound is a tread compound, and the second compound is formed from a high-wear compound, wherein the tread is formed from winding the coextruded strip onto a tire building drum while varying a ratio of the first compound to the second compound, wherein the tread comprises a radially inner base layer and one or more tread blocks, wherein the tread blocks each comprise an outer layer and inclined walls that encapsulate an inner portion, wherein the outer layer comprises walls having a volume ratio of 100% of the second compound.
