Abstract
The present invention relates to improvements in the area of flexible impeller pumps. In particular, the present invention relates to flexible impellers with improved profiles (such as dual sealing lips), which are particularly well-suited to multiple cam pumps. A novel mounting hub configuration for mounting an impeller on a drive shaft is also provided. Pumps comprising such impellers and/or mounting hubs are provided, as are associated methods of installation and removal.
Claims16
A flexible impeller for use in a flexible impeller pump of the type including a drive shaft and a pump housing having at least one cammed surface cooperating with the flexible impeller, the flexible impeller comprising:
- a body and a plurality of flexible vanes extending outwardly from the body, wherein each of the plurality of vanes comprises a root and a tip and at least first and second sealing elements, wherein the first sealing element is provided at the tip of the vane and the second sealing element is provided between the tip and the root of the vane, and wherein further the second sealing element comprises a protrusion from one or both sides of the vane.
A flexible impeller pump, comprising:
- a flexible impeller having a body and a plurality of flexible vanes extending outwardly from the body, wherein each of the plurality of vanes comprises a root and a tip and at least first and second sealing elements, wherein the first sealing element is provided at the tip of the vane and the second sealing element is provided between the tip and the root of the vane, and wherein further the second sealing element comprises a protrusion from one or both sides of the vane;
- a pump housing having at least one cammed surface cooperating with the flexible impeller;
- and
- a rotatable drive shaft upon which the flexible impeller is mounted for rotational movement within the pump housing.
