Device and method for water filtration using discarded dialyzers

A system for water filtration comprising:

• at least one dialyzer;
• a water input pipe connected to a blood port of the dialyzer;
• a first reversible press-fit connector;
• and
• a clean water output pipe,
• wherein:
• the first press-fit connector comprises a body including a cavity crossing the body from a first end of the body to a second end of the body, for enabling water flow from the first end to the second end;
• the cavity at the first end of the body is shaped and sized for pressing onto and encircling a port of the dialyzer;
• the cavity at the second end of the connector body is shaped and sized for pressing into a hole in a side wall of a water pipe;
• and
• a dialysate port of the dialyzer is connected to a hole in a side wall of the clean water output pipe by the first press-fit connector.

A method for filtering water comprising:

• providing a system for water filtration comprising:
• at least one dialyzer;
• a water input pipe connected to a blood port of the dialyzer;
• a first reversible press-fit connector;
• and
• a clean water output pipe;
• wherein:
• the first press-fit connector comprises a body including a cavity crossing the body from a first end of the body to a second end of the body, for enabling water flow from the first end to the second end;
• the cavity at the first end of the body is shaped and sized for pressing onto and encircling a port of the dialyzer;
• the cavity at the second end of the connector body is shaped and sized for pressing into a hole in a side wall of a water pipe;
• a dialysate port of the dialyzer is connected to a hole in a side wall of the clean water output pipe by the first press-fit connector;
• providing water to the water input pipe;
• and
• withdrawing clean water from the clean water output pipe.
